My son Janni, (pronounced Yonni), is a 20 year old Marine who has just arrived in Iraq this week on his first deployment. Janni is in Iraq because he loves his country and he loves the Marines. Janni is there to fight in a foreign land on my behalf and your behalf as well. Janni knows the dangers and willingly accepts those dangers for the greater good- for our good.
Janni also loves a lot of other things as well including Emma, his car, having fun going out with his friends, using his computer, playing video games and so much more. He has chosen to leave all of that behind so that he may perform with honor on the field of combat for our sake.
I am proud of Janni as he serves in Iraq and I hope that you are too.
A great morale booster for Janni would be receiving letters and care packages from the ones he loves and even from complete strangers. These will help him pass the time, maintain his sanity and allow him to see that his service has not gone unnoticed.
Think of all of the silly ways that we choose to waste time in a day. Could you take just five minutes of that time to write a quick note to Janni? Think about the happiness you would bring him for just five minutes effort! Can you sacrifice five minutes of your time in exchange for the six months that he is giving for you and I?
If you would actually consider sending a care package I am pasting a link below that shows great ideas for what to send:
For those who would have an interest in sending him mail or care packages his address is listed below. It must be written exactly in that format:
